SADAACHARA SMRUTI - PART 1 - Bali, Hanuman, Markendeya

Day 3 b

Bali chakravarthy

Son of Virochana, grandson of Prahlada.
He is a Hari Bhaktha.
Inspite of his Guru Sukracharya’s warning Bali donated everything for Lord Vishnu, hence he became a chakrvarthy.
He very well knew it was Lord Vishnu he has come in disguise, yet he was ready to offer himself.
God was thus satisfied was gave him the boon of becoming the Indra in the next manvantara.
He got all comforts in Suthala Loka.
The lesson we get from Bali Chakrvarthy is Dhaana (offer) leads to become Chiranjeevi.
Whom should we give Dhaana
·       We should offer water and food to whomever, who are thirsty and hungry regardless of their caste. Don’t offer food and water to nasthikavadhi (atheist – who doesn’t accept Lord Vishnu and Vedhas). Because it simply means we have given strength to tha atheist for him/her to spread nasthika.
·       Should offer land, cow and money only to good people who make use of them for GOOD purpose alone. Don’t lend or offer to those people who destroy, spoil it or who use these for bad reasons.

Crisp
You should be able to surrender yourself to God.

Hanumatha
He is a avatar of mukya prana. He is vayu.
He is the responsible for our breath.
He is still a chiranjevi always praying to Shri Rama  in kim purusha khanda.
He is maha vidvas (wise).
He had vak chaturya.
He was dasa of Lord Rama.
He can accomplish the duties that no one can even think of.
The lesson to be learned from Hanuman is how to adopt Virakthi/vairagya(aversion), Bhakthi.

Crisp
Bhakthi is most important.
Expect nothing from God, except of god himself. (Pray to god I want you, I want bhakthi on you, I want to spend this whole day with your thoughts. Don’t pray him for the material world. A mother knows what is good for child, similarly Supreme Lord knows what is good for us.)
Virakthi is important for Bhakthi.
Pray hanuman to give virakthi, not on material world, but on God.

Markendeya

Here is an interesting story of Markendeya muni.
He is son of Mrikandu rishi and Marudmathi.
They both worshipped Shiva and sought from him the boon of begetting a son. As a result, he was given the choice of either a gifted son, but with a short life on earth or a child of low intelligence but with a long life. Mrikandu rishi chose the former, and was blessed with Markandeya, an exemplary son, destined to die at the age of 16.
He is a muni who got boon from Vishnu, Bramha and Rudra.
His father did tatva upadesha when just he was five years old.
He was very smart as the boon was offered to him.
So the all his elders gave him a guidance: where ever you go, where ever you stay, if you see an elder, a satvik Brahma jnani then offer respect, (touch their feet and do pranama) for them.
In return for his respect the elders would wish him “dheerga ayushman bhava”.

Then he met sapta rishis. He usually prostrated in front of them. They alo granted him “dheerga ayushman bhava” .
Elders of Markendeya now asked, Markendeya has only little life time, but you sapta rishis have blessed him for long life, now what should we do. So the sapta rishis were confused and decided to take this issue to Lord Brahma who was responsible for people’s life span.

Once they all reached Brahma Loka Markendeya rishi out of his practice bowed to Brahma Deva. Brahma in turn told  “dheerga ayushman bhava Markendeya”. Again the elders of Markendya told that he has only short life. But Brahma smiled at them and told don’t worry he will stay for long. He has got praises from many rishis and elders, hence he will stay long. Still prarabdha karma(collection of past karmas) will still be present. So go to Kashi and pray to Kashi Vishwanatha. He will give you a long life. Hence he started to pray Lord Vishwanatha.
The messengers of Yama, the god of death were unable to take away his life because of his great devotion and continual worship of Lord Vishwanatha. Yama then came in person to take away his Markendeya's life, and sprung his noose arond his neck. By accident or fate the noose mistakenly fell around Shivalinga, and Shiva thus emerged out with anger attacking Yama for his act of voilence. This in effect gave him a dheerga ayushya and became a chiranjeevi.

How to do namaskara to elders
Keeping  our right hand on their right foot and left hand on their left foot. (Right hand must be above left hand).
We should have a thought that we are offering respect to the Shri Hari who is inside the elderly person or the Brahma jnani.
Vise versa, if someone offer reverence for us we should think this prostration is not for me, this is for the God inside me. As Lord Rudra has told “ Gohashayaiva na theham manine”.

Crisp
Do namaskara to elders with Bhakthi.
There are four essentials things for a good life – ayush, pragya, yashas and bala. To get these we need to be abhivadhasheela (say greetings) to parents, elders, persons who follow hari bhakthi, dhesha dharma. Do seva to them.

Step 10

Think of them to avoid kali’s dominance

Karkotagasya nagasya damayandya nalaschacha
Suparnasya rajasyae kirthanam kali nashanam
Kirthanam papa nashanam keerthanam punya vardanam

Step 11

 Think of BHAGYASHALI’s (Fortunate people)
Who is bhagyashali?
·       The one who is very wealthy.
·       The one who can do thinks whatever he thinks.
·       Whatever he dreams come true.
Wow what a lucky person he is, is what we think. But that’s not the truth. What is the use of that person being a crorpathi if  is not offering any of his money to needy, do nothing for the country’s welfare, do nothing to God. It is of NO USE.

Dasar has sung “ nimma bhaghya doddathu namma bhaghya doddathu”.

Whatever sampat is there, may be money, physical one has to offer it to god. Physical has to help needy if he is rich enough, if rich share it. In whatever we have, with that start to help people and animals as much as possible. At the same time never get pride your helping others. (its God has said you to
help, and we receive a lot from Him and give other too little).

Step 12

Think of acharya
Who is acharya
·       One does upadesha on tattvajnana, dharma, our culture, our duty.
·       One who follows his own teaching on tattvajnana.
·       Make others to follow the same.
Thank him every day for giving us knowledge on everything. And spread this knowledge with like minded people.(who has similar interest of knowing ‘shri Hari and tattvajnana.)

Step 13

Think of ANNADATA
Annadata Shri Hari
Thank Shri Hari for providing food to us.

Next think of FARMERS who helps us fill our stomach. They experience a lot of struggles, still they feed all of us.

SADAACHARA SMRUTI - PART 1 - Bhagavath Bhakthas

Day 3

Let us pray Sri Krishna who killed Narakasura, the asura who had a jealous of want to have everything in this world for himself. (Hare Krishna! I also have the same asura wthin me, who is longing to have every material whatever I see to myself, Please kill that jealous out of me.)

Step 9

Think of Bhagavath Bhakthas

We have a wish to live long. If we need longevity then we should lead a disciplined life, should be kriyasheel (do your duty). So for that we need to think of great people who lived long. Get blessings from such people.

Ashvathama Balirvyaso Hanumascha vibheeshnaha.
Kripah Parashuramacha saptaite charanjeevinaha.
Saptaitam Manasa smrthva Markandeyam adhashtavam
Jeeveth varsha shataham shagram apamrtyu vivarjithaha.

If we meditate on these bhagavath bhakthas we would also become charanjeevi’s (live long) similar to them.

Ashvathama acharya

Ashvathama acharya was a avatara of RUDRA. He came as son of Dronacharya and Kripi. In the later Dwapara he gets chance to do Veda vibhaga, which gives him a position of Vyasa (the person doing Veda vibhaga is known as Vyasa).

He came to earth for the sake of doing seva to Shri Hari and Bhoo bhara harana (reduce burden of mother earth).
According to Mahabharatha tatparya Nirnaya the biggest seva of Bhoo bhara harana was did by Bheemasena, Draupati and Ashwatama acharya.
He was with kuaravas as sankalpa of Shri Hari (who wished to reduce the burden of earth). He was with Kali, still he followed Naishtika Brahmacharya (a vowed celibate).  Bramhacharya means not getting married accordin to s, but it also means whole heartedly praying to Brahmam (Shri Hari) without any diversion.
You may say, he was the one who told he will have a son through Duryodhana’s wife.  This was just to show us a lesson of how having bad company will affect us, we need to face trouble.
This shows as Sripadharajar has rightly sung “ittange iruvanu Hariye”, Ashwatama achar has followed it. Swami you have told me to stay with kauravas, I will satisfy your wish.
Only if these people are near Duryodhana, he has the guts to do mistake. Where Shri Hari wants him to make more mistakes so that he will be punished fast. So that he can be thrown out of the world, to reduce the unwanted burden of the earth.
Where ever there is seva for Bhagavath bhakthas happening bhagavath sangha(satsanga of devotees), boori bhojana (grand meal in mutts) he is present in that place.

Crisp
He was a naishtika brahmachari.
We should avoid bad company.

Vyasah

Vedha Vyasa was God himself. There is no necessity to call im Chiranjeevi, since he is Ananta (has no end).
* He is referred here as Chiranjeevi has he has incarnated to the purpose of knowledge.
* He has come to make satvik people to get pure knowledge.
* For every Avatar he has a time to incarnate and to reach parandhama.

Crisp
Gain knowledge.
Spread the right knowledge.

Parashurama

Similar to Vysah he is also God himself.
He incarnated for the sake of Dharma. To ensure Dharma is followed correctly.
Son of Jamadagni rishi and Renuka devi.
He did 21 times pradakshina (encompass) around the earth to eradicate immoral shatriyas. He made the earth as his own and denoted it to brahmanas. He thought he has given the bhoomi as dhana to the satvik people who pray Vishnu always, now he was pleased. Yet after giving this as a dhana he decided he should not partake/share the thing that was given as dhana to somebody else. So he threw his parashu and stood on sahyadhri (Western Ghats).

Once dhana is given we should not feel the possession (ownership) on that material. You should sacrifice it and should not think that I have given it.

Crisp
Always be righteous.
If anybody does something immoral try to stop them. Should not be ignorant.

While giving any Dhaana should say “Bharathi Ramana Mukya prananthargatha Parashuramaya namah”
While getting a Dhaana should say “Bharathi Ramana Mukya prananthargatha Vamanaya namah”

Why Parashurama while giving Dhaana?
So that we will have a thought as Parashurama did not posses any ownership of the material, we to should not.

Why vamana while taking Dhaana?
Vamana has taken dhaana for the sake of loka kalyana. Similarly we assure ourselves im getting this dhaana for good deeds and will not misuse it.

Kripacharya

In ekadasha Rudra he is avatar of Vishkamba.
Since he is Chiranjeevi he did not die in krukshetra war.
He was a chief priest in the court of Hastinapura.
He had the opportunity of being Guru of Parikshit Raja (grandson of Arjun) and Janamejaya (son of Parikshit Raja).
Similar to Ashwatama achar , he too followed the concept of “ittange iruvanu Hariye”. Eventhough he was with Kauravas physically his all thoughts were on Pandavas. He wants Pandvas to win, he wants Dharma to win.
He had a wish, that everyone in kuru’s clan should be knowledge. He needs everybody to be knowledgeable. He was a great, dedicated
Teacher. (we should be similar to him, we shall teach our kids about Lord Sreenivasa, his qualities, his stotras, songs. Spread everything you have read or heard about Lord Sreenivasa. Sharing gives us a lot of phala.)

“ittange iruvanu Hariye”.
Im ready to be as you wish. You are the only one who know my capabilities.
This quality reduces greed and expectations which eventually leads to happy peaceful life.
If you give me a lot of wealth, its your wish. If you gave me less wealth again its your wish. I accept whatever you give me.
As dasar has said ninna chitake bandhidhu enna chittake barali anyatha baikaya kodathiro sreenivasa dayaneedhi.

Crisp
Follow the concept of “ittange iruvanu Hariye”.

Vibheeshana

Son of Pulastya Rish
Younger brother of Ravana and Kumbakarna.
Vibheeshana, Ravana and Kumbakarna performed tapas. In which Ravana and Kumbakarna prayed for being Chiranjevi. Whereas Vibheeshana prayed for devotion in god alone.
But the both brothers were not Chiranjeevi, even though they longed for it. Vibheeshana longed for bhakthi where in turn he got to be Chiranjeevi. This is the best example for us, to know if we had bhakthi on god, He gives us everything.

Crisp
If we ask God for his Bhakthi, we get the unexpected things/positions in the world. (Prahladha and Vibheeshana had pure bhakthi on him. They didn’t  expect luxurious life or the position of a king, but they eveythig from the hands of God directly.)
